Tackling the Issues
A number of critical issues must be resolved to do research on genetics and health that is intelligent, considerate, and ethical:
The stakeholders in this complex research enterprise must be identified.
Mutual knowledge of the issues that join them must be developed.
Effective directions for interdisciplinary research must be proposed.
The information needed to make sense of genetics and health must be determined.
How information may be shared across organizational and scientific boundaries must be mutually established.
How to properly safeguard the rights of individuals and groups while "doing the science right" must be assured.
